Worship Service Dec 21 2008

Call to Worship: Isaiah 60:1- 3Isaiah 60:5-6 Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and his glory appears over you.  Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn, Then you will look and be radiant,  your heart will throb and swell with joy; the wealth on the seas will be brought to you, to you the riches of the nations will come. Herds of camels will cover your land, young camels of Midian and Ephah.  And all from Sheba will come, bearing gold and incense and proclaiming the praise of the LORD.

Lighting of the Advent Candle: Richard & Kim Northrup

Our waiting is almost at an end.  Today we light the fourth Advent candle.  We light this candle as a sign of love.  We are humbled because God spoke through the prophet Isaiah words about a coming child to be named Emmanuel, "God with us."  These words of long ago have new meaning for us today.  We are humbled because God directed Joseph to accept Mary's unusual pregnancy as a sign of the Spirt's activity.  These surprising directions lead to a path of life.  We are humbled because God raised Jesus from the dead, showing that this was no ordinary man, but God's own Son.  This work of love for all humankind brings us faith, hope, and joy.

Hymn: O Come All Ye Faithful

Offertory Call: Multiplication and Blessing always start with giving.  The seed of Jesus was planted on the earth, the Father's loving gift that He gave Out of that one gift, we, the church, exist.  Give as giving unto the Lord.

Special Music: Wayne Flippin
